Revitalising Central Dandenong

A huge transformation has been taking place in Dandenong, dubbed the ‘heart of Melbourne’s growing south east corridor’. This transformation is a result of the the Victorian State Government’s $290 million Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative, an immense construction project which the Eigen Group (EigenStones/Eigen Tactile) has been a part of over the last six years. The project aims to both revitalise the city centre and create a fresh new future for central Dandenong. Eigen, working in conjunction with VicUrban and the City of Greater Dandenong, has been dedicated to meeting these aims by supplying and installing a wide variety of its products which have enhanced both the practical and aesthetic elements of the redesign works.

As shown in the photographs, cobble-stones were used to repave service lanes and raised pavement markers were used as car parking lines on Lonsdale Street, while granite segmented pavers were used to repave street frontages and footpaths. Granite blocks were utilised to create casual seating space alongside footpaths and granite kerbs added finishing touches to the redesign of Lonsdale Street. Pedestrian crossings in the area were also updated through the installation of Tactile Ground Surface Indicators.

The redevelopment of Lonsdale Street was just a start, EigenStones also supplied granite pavers for the repaving of Langhorne Plaza, and for the new street frontages on Walker Street and City Street. In addition, Eigen Tactile worked with clients, Grocon Pty Ltd, to supply and install Tactile Ground Surface Indicators in Dandenong’s new Government Services Building. The exceptional reinvention of the Dandenong area has demonstrated our ability to deliver what our clients require, regardless of the size of the project or the height of the standards expected. Time and time again, Eigen has proved that its products are cost effective, durable, versatile, and able to enhance any design, making it one of the major players in the stone and tactile market in Australia.
